Northwestern Medical Review USMLE-PLAB-UKMLA-MCCEE Step 1 Preparatory Course 21-30 September 2016, Dhaka, Bangladesh

United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE)

What is USMLE?
The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) is a three-step examination for medical licensure in the United States and is sponsored by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME).

The USMLE program supports medical licensing authorities in the United States through its leadership in the development, delivery, and continual improvement of high-quality assessments across the continuum of physicians’ preparation for practice.

Every year around 25,000 international medical graduates register to attempt USMLE, out of those only 73% (18,250 candidates) pass it at first attempt.

  • The foremost benefits of passing the USMLE tests are:
  1.    To become eligible to apply to residency programs in the United States.
  2.    To apply for fellowships in the US in All specialties to become a Specialist.
  3.    To apply for licensure (practicing medicine) in Dubai, UAE, Qatar, etc.
  • After passing the first two steps, one is eligible for New Zealand Registration exam.
  • Along with USMLE, there will training for:
  1.    MCCEE (The Medical Council of Canada evaluating Examination)
  2.    AMLE (Australian Medical Licensing Examination)
  3.    UK Medical Licensing Examination also available.

br /> Passing any International Medical Licensing Examination is not a piece of cake. One needs strong determination, proven guidance, discreet methods, and of course passion for a global recognition. Considering this, we are about to create a history today.

Format of USMLE:
This is a 3 step test.
STEP 01

  • This assesses the examinee’s understanding and ability to apply important concepts of the sciences basic to the practice of medicine, with special emphasis on principles and mechanisms underlying health, disease, and modes of therapy.
  • Subjects- Anatomy Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology. Immunology, Forensic medicine, Community medicine
  • This is a computer based test of 310 MCQs.
  • There will be seven 60 minute blocks in 8 hours in one day.

STEP 02

CK – Clinical Knowledge

  • This assesses the examinee’s ability to apply medical knowledge, skills, and understanding of clinical science essential for the provision of patient care under supervision, with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Subjects: Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology & Community medicine
  • This is a computer based test of 350 MCQs.
  • There will be eight 60 minute blocks in 9 hours in one day.

CS – Clinical Skills

  • This clinical skills examination is a separate component and it uses standardized patients to test examinees on their ability to gather information from patients, perform physical examinations, and communicate their findings to patients and colleagues.
  • This is about 12 patient cases.
  • There will be 15 minutes for each patient encounter plus 10 minutes to record each patient note (PN)
  • There will be eight hours for this test in another day.

br /> STEP 03
This assesses the examinee’s ability to apply medical knowledge and understanding of biomedical and clinical science essential for the unsupervised practice of medicine, with emphasis on patient management in ambulatory settings.

Day 01 (FIP) – Foundations of Independent Practice

  • Approximately 260 MCQs divided into six 60 minute blocks, each containing approximately 44 questions.

Day 02 (ACM) – Advanced Clinical Medicine

  • Approximately 200 MCQs divided into six 45 minute blocks, each containing approximately 33 questions.
  • 13 Computer based case simulations (CCS) will be there and each simulation is allotted a maximum of 10 to 20 minutes of real time.
